About me

Bronze Age, Iron Age, Stone Age. Rich artistic work of Pavol Stesko can be defined in the same way as the whole period of mankind history is defined - pursuant to material or technologies. Bronze, stone and wood as well as other fine materials are transformed to the timeless realization of statues, reliefs, paintings. Pieces of work that are not governed by the up-to-date fashionable trends but by their own original style, they do not copy anybody - only their high standard.

"My art - it is the life itself, it is me. It is dynamic, expressive, here and there loud, however fine and pure, with the sense for a soft detail. It is not trivial. Simple lines with details that have their own meaning and purpose can be seen at a first glance. As the life itself..."

Materials, technique and the way of realization of the author pieces of work of Pavol Stesko are transformed to the modern design with the pathos of qualities and virtues of the past era. His pieces of work can be seen as the top quality works with the stylish luxury oriented on the detail and honest talented work on fine materials. Pavol keeps all his virtues of sculpture. He respects them; he moves them to a new - inimitable original form. His work is a composition of substances and geometric shapes in the space. His plastic art and statues do not sit, do not stand, however they wind themselves, uplift, spring, levitate, they are even hanged or plummet.

"I consider materials that I use with enthusiasm to be my ally with whom I cooperate - I listen to it and adopt thereto. Thus I can achieve that my pieces of work are pure, dynamic and balanced in line with material they are made of."

Pavol Stesko was born in Banská Bystrica, Slovak Republic in 1968. Inspired by the family, nature of Central Slovakia, folk art as well as modern understanding of sculpture and design he graduated from the Arts and Craft School in Bratislava. He graduated from the Sculpture field of study by Professor J. Gavula. He works and performs in Slovakia. He exhibited in the Czech Republic, Italy, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South and North Americas. His work in the restoration ateliers further influenced his work.

"Thank to my restoration work in many castles, manor houses or other historic buildings I learnt that everything is evanescent. The question is how to prolong and conserve that moment of eternity and artistic work for the longest time and in the top quality level. I transformed these experiences to my work."

The work in the field of sculpture and painting is Pavol's focus and personal author conquest. He is good at and confidently uses everlasting techniques and processes of the work with the traditional materials of the sculpture - statue (stone, wood), plastic art (bronze, plaster), reliets (metal, wood) as well as painting (glass, mirrors and collages)...

"I love nature and people as they are. Especially when they are natural. Each, even a detail that is meaningless for somebody, is a great inspiration for me which I then transform further - on the paper, in the clay, plaster, stone, wood, bronze..."

Pavol does not search for any external justification of his work. Neither narrative or illustrative, nor philosophical. The main task of the sculpture it is to last - he thus Torced to last also the movement up, vibration, free fall, as well as something that is not even materialised...

„My vision is to create. For myself, for others, for life."
